Chorokhi Delta

Chorokhi Delta

Why go: The Chorokhi Delta is very diverse for birds. It is a lowland area and a very important place for migratory birds. It attracts many birds during migration and offers shelter for fueling and recovery.
Look out for: The place is very surprising and one of the best places for birders looking for diverse bird species. You can find 200+ species in a few hours, and unexpected species are also possible here, such as Three-banded Plover, Desert Wheatear, Isabelline Shrike, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Great Snipe, Jack Snipe, Common Snipe, Purple Swamphen / Grey-headed Swamphen, harriers (Marsh, Montagu’s, Hen, Pallid), Aquila eagles, falcons, and accipiters.
Best conditions: This is very variable and depends on timing. In early spring it is full of passerines and very joyful for birders. Autumn is crowded with many birds and species—usually after rain birds show up very intensely, especially September, October, and the first half of November.
Time needed: ½–full day.
Tactics: Depends on weather conditions. Prepare hiking boots. If it’s drizzling, bring an umbrella, or long-sleeve waterproof cover / rain poncho.
